Abraham Lincoln quote in Chicago Tribune

“Let the people know the facts and the country will be safe,” said President Abraham LIncoln, inscribed on the inner walls of the Chicago Tribune building. I took this shot in 2006 while attending an SPJ conference there.

Letting them know, I might argue, is only half the battle, thanks to today’s decline in a viable local journalism model . This problem of not having the financial means to collect the “facts” and finding the audience to hear them might be hamper our democracy in a way Mr. Lincoln could have never imagined.  It’s quite a pickle. It will be interesting to see how this quote from this great man plays out in the years to come…
