The 2,200-square-foot apartment's entrance is located on the third floor of renovated Park Hall. Built in 1865 as a German dance hall and brewery, it has been completely remodeled by architect Mike Stehlin (and fellow former Colerainian) who also lives in the building.
Park Hall is directly across Washington Park from Music Hall in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. Known more recently for its abject poverty, Over-the-Rhine has begun a renaissance and revitalization since the April 2001 civil unrest. Settled originally by Germans who went "over the Rhine" - the Rhine being the relatively short-lived Miami & Erie Canal that once enveloped the area - it became a thriving community of German-speaking residents, beautiful churches and stunning and original architecture. Take a tour, or just look up while walking through, and see some amazing buildings. There is a strong effort afoot to save the neighborhood and maintain the current buildings, while bringing in new, and serving the current, residents.
Besides being centrally located in Cincinnati, I'm looking forward to being close to work and the burgeoning community effort in the neighborhood. Great restaurants and all the excitement of living downtown, plus the close proximity to Music Hall, facilitating my broadening fine arts fetish, make this an ideal place for me to live.
