I have
never been to the U.S. Capitol building. In fact, I’ve only been to D.C. once a few months ago (technically twice, but the first time was so short and in the middle of the night it doesn’t count) and we never made it to the Capitol.
Had I made it to the home of Congress I would have likely visited Statuary Hall, been in awe, then realized there was not one African-American in the whole joint. That’s embarrassing, to say the least.
Well, good news. There is an opportunity to change that, as I write about in this week’s column for The Cincinnati Post. Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge William L. Mallory, Jr. has proposed including some prominent African-American Ohioans after the Ohio Legislature voted last fall to yank the stature of William Allen, an outspoken racist.
